Comparing the key differences between the Lander™ harness and the Canyon Pro Series

The Lander™ harness is more than a new release—it's the evolution of the Canyon Pro Series. Based on feedback from thousands of Canyon Pro owners, we reimagined everything from crash safety to fit, shedding anything that didn’t serve performance on the trail.

We didn’t want to make a better general-purpose harness. We wanted to build the best harness for hiking and backcountry travel. Period. The Lander brings us back to the essence of what outdoor dog gear should be: minimalist in form, loaded with function.

This article breaks down the key differences between the Lander™ and the Canyon Pro harnesses. (We’re not comparing the Muse harness here—it’s a different beast: lightweight, streamlined, and not crash-rated.)

Key Differences between the Lander™ harness & the Canyon Pro Series

Crash-Test Improvements

The biggest leap forward? Crash safety. The Lander™ is the first Säker® harness to pass crash testing with the seatbelt routed through the top handle instead of under the back pad. This shift means more comfort and natural range of motion for your dog while riding.

Functional Improvements

    • Integrated Back Extension: What used to be the removable back extension on the Canyon Pro Extended is now part of the Lander’s core frame. The result: better weight distribution and a more stable fit.

    • Lighter Build: The Lander weighs 631g (size M), making it about 20% lighter than the Canyon Pro (786g).

    • Clear Armpit Zone: Thanks to the second girth strap, the harness will not slide into the armpit area—giving your dog full range of movement.

    • Low-Profile Handle (No Magnets): The new top handle stays low without magnets. Less weight. Less complexity.

    • Neck Buckle on All Sizes: Wide-headed dog? Or just hates gear going over the head? The Lander has you covered with a neck buckle standard across all sizes.

    • Simplified Leash Points: Clip directly to the reinforced loops on the back or belly—no extra hardware.

    • No Reflective Trim: Reflective elements were removed in favor of our PitchBlack® safety light, which performs better in real trail conditions.

    Design Improvements

    • The Lander harness is the second Säker® product to feature our brand new LoonSkin™ fabric. Designed to mimic the freedom of flight, it offers effortless flexibility and durability, allowing your dog to move naturally. It is coated with a durable water repellent.

    • Streamlined Webbing: All straps are now 25mm (1 inch), reducing weight without compromising strength.

    • Updated Sizing: The sizing of the Lander harness is slightly different from the one of the Canyon series. The sizes are now XS, S, M, L instead of S, M-L, L-XL. You can access the sizing corner of the Lander harness here (it is the same as Muse harness).

    • Thinner Pads: The pads of the Lander harness are thinner and made of our LoonSkin™ fabric, allowing them to embrace your dog's shape perfectly—right out of the box. No break-in period.

    • New Chest-to-Belly Integration: The chest pad now slots into the belly pad, creating a more stable ride without sacrificing adjustability.

    Dog Pack Improvements

    • The Lander harness does not come in a "Dog Pack" version. If you wish to transform your harness into a dog pack, you will need the Pouches 001 upgrade

    • The Pouches 001 are featuring a new style of "bounce buckle" that is significantly simpler to attach. The new bounce buckle will prevent the packs from moving up and down as your dog is hiking or running.

    • The Pouches 001 feature the same internal mesh pockets that the Canyon Dog Pack featured.

    Accessory Improvements

    • The new Lander harness has a dedicated loop on top of the harness (near the base of the neck) for the PitchBlack® Safety light.

    • The Lander harness works very well with the latest K911® Rescue Sling (launched in March 2024). It also works with the original Rescue Sling, but it is not as friendly or easy to use.

    • The Lander harness is compatible with our new Traction 001 add-on that lets your dog assist you for the climb.

    Durability Improvements

    • We've swapped the D-rings on the top and on the chest of the harness. These new D-rings resist a load of 763 lbs each while weighing only 3grams. Their tubular design also makes them soft to the touch with no sharp edges.

    • Our LoonSkin fabric is abrasion-resistant to extend the life of your Lander™ harness.

In short, the Lander™ harness is our most refined build yet. Stronger. Lighter. Smarter. And designed for people who actually go places with their dogs.
